Increased number of virus attacks on computers
Sigma Computers report increased incidents of Trojans infecting computers. Disinfection takes about an hour.
Sigma Computers of Southampton and Warwick have experienced an increased number of calls from concerned computer users who have had their computers infected by Trojan viruses. In some cases where the users have tried to solve the problem themselves they have ended up with expensive system reconstructions. These can be avoided but users need to follow certain guidelines.
First, install reputable anti virus and firweall software.
Second, do not open emails if you do not know where they have come from. Some of the Trojans currently experienced come from emails from what appear to be well known companies, in particular parcel carriers and news organizations.
Third, if you suspect your computer is infected, close it down and call either your IT dept or support company. If you dont have either, then call Sigma Computers on 02380 663636 and ask for technical assistance. You wont get long queues or automated answering systems, but you will get someone who can start the process of recovering your system and removing the offending virus/trojan.
The current most common and irritating Trojans being experienced may show one or more of a series of messages. They include :-

Please note new messages crop up all the time, so the above list is not exhaustive. Your "screen wallpaper" may also be replaced by a message that shows :- "Warning! Spyware detected on your computer. Install an antivirus or spyware remover to clean your computer"
Normal anti virus software will detect the Trojans and remove them, but because of their self replicating qualities as fast as the software removes them they reappear. They also have their own camouflage and so are not easily identified, this means that you will need to either get your PC to Sigma Computers or another reputable systems house or get a software engineer out to you.
